Professorship for Philosophy, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
I am a PhD student at the University of Bayreuth under the supervision of Prof. Lena Kästner and a member of the research project Explainable Intelligent Systems. Previously I completed my M.A at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where I wrote my thesis on how we can use graph structures to think about explanations of cognitive phenomena.
My research interests include artificial intelligence, the philosophy of neuroscience, the philosophy of biology, and the philosophy of psychiatry. My work aims to shed light on how we might explain and understand complex intelligent systems of both the biological and artificial varieties. To this end, one of my main research topics is the use of opaque machine learning models, such as deep neural networks, in scientific discovery and explanation.
